FAA Level 2 Award in First Aid for Youth Mental Health (RQF) Award in First Aid for Youth Mental Health at SCQF Level 5 (1 day) This course is designed for anyone who regularly interacts with children, including parents, caregivers, educators, youth group leaders, and young adults. Delegates must be at least 14 years old to qualify. The qualification was designed with children and adolescents in mind, covering topics such as depression, self-harm, eating disorders, and bullying, and will provide the knowledge and skills to identify a potential mental health condition, initiate a conversation, and provide support and guidance to professional assistance. Learners will not diagnose or treat mental health disorders, as this is the sole responsibility of healthcare professionals. However, they will be able to recognise when a person may have a condition and know where to get assistance. Topics covered include: • What is mental health first aid for young people? • Identification of mental health disorders • Stress • Mental health disorders • narcotics and alcohol • Plan of first aid for mental health Certification The learner will receive a Level 2 Award (Level 5 in Scotland) in First Aid for Youth Mental Health upon successful assessment. The credential is valid for three years from the day it was earned. To maintain certification for an additional three years, the student must retake the full course. Assessment Summative practical assessment is ongoing by the instructor throughout the duration of the course, along with a written assessment. A Level 2 Award (Level 5 in Scotland) in First Aid for Youth Mental Health will be issued to the learner, subject to successful assessment on both parts.
